Plan fees and expenses from an employer perspective

Plan related fees and expenses are recorded as a separate expense from employer contributions and can be deducted as a general business expense. Separately recording fees and expenses paid outside of the 401(k) account allows for more transparent tracking for reporting purposes. In certain instances, an employer may also qualify for a plan sponsor tax credit.
