How do I reset my password?

Here's how to reset your Guideline password and the password requirements you'll need to meet for security purposes.

Updated over a week ago

You can reset your password by clicking the “Forgot Your Password?” button on the Guideline login page here. After doing so, you'll be sent instructions to your primary email on file on how to reset your password.

Password requirements

Your password must:

  • Be between 8 and 255 characters

  • Include at least 3 of the following:

    • Uppercase

    • Lowercase

    • Number

    • Special character

    • No 3 repeating characters

    • No 3 sequential characters

  • Not be the same as your last password

How do I find my password if I was auto-enrolled?

If you were auto-enrolled and this is the first time you’re accessing your account, you’ll need to find the invitation email you received from Guideline and use the unique enrollment link in that email to set up your account. Look for the subject line [Your Company's Name] 401(k) Plan Automatic Enrollment Notice.

If you cannot find the enrollment email, your internal 401(k) administrator can resend it from their Guideline dashboard. Feel free to share this article with instructions on how to do so.

How else can I protect my account?

In addition to creating a strong password, you will also be required to set up two-factor authentication to protect your account. The Department of Labor has shared other ways to reduce the risk of fraud and loss to your retirement savings. See their online security tips here.
